Sony Ericsson, and many other manufacturers opted for Google Android platform as the core. Jan (Jan Uddenfeldt) the Technical Director of Sony Ericsson, told MEDIA that in 2011, will be 180 million smartphones sold on Android.
Last year, according to Jan, Android devices purchased 60 million users. By 2014 the number wishing to grow to 400 million. And Sony Ericsson expects NIP from the big piece of pie.
In 2011, Sony Ericsson will launch at least 8 models based on Android vs. 4 in 2010. Already Arc, Xperia, Xperia Play, Xperia Pro, Xperia mini Neo, Xperia pro mini Acro, Walkman W8. According to Jan the company has no current plans to release Windows Phone devices in 2011, but that doesn’t mean that it will not develop at all – it all depends on market conditions
